Community Standards & App Guidelines

You should be able to get ahead here while helping someone else move forward.

Trade brings us together. How we treat one another gives this community its value. These are the standards we ask everyone at The Hangout Live to practice.

Honest buying and selling, in every category

These guidelines cover fashion, shoes, accessories, coins, sports cards, trading card games, comics, memorabilia, supplies, and other collectibles. Describe the actual item, quantity, condition, authenticity, size or grade, and all charges before a buyer commits. Disclose repairs, alterations, replicas where permitted, and material defects. Do not sell counterfeit, stolen, or otherwise prohibited goods.

For an ordinary auction, the winning bidder purchases the identified item or disclosed lot. No shill bidding, fake demand, concealed seller participation, or misleading countdowns. Fulfill the advertised sale and provide accurate shipment information.

Auctions, games & gambling

Hangout Live does not permit unlawful gambling or using listings, streams, or private messages to arrange it. Do not sell wagers, paid lottery or raffle entries, paid chances to win a separate prize, or chance-based arrangements where a loser pays for another person’s winnings. Do not attach a purchase-based random bonus, jackpot, cash-out, or double-or-nothing feature to a sale.

An auction label, guaranteed item, opening bid, or claimed minimum value does not by itself establish that a randomized format is lawful. Sellers must meet the requirements that apply to the business, buyers, and sale locations; another marketplace allowing a format is not permission to run it here.

Breaks, repacks, mystery products & randomized spots

These formats require written platform review before being offered. Submit exactly what each buyer acquires, the allocation method, contents and quantities, disclosures, fulfillment terms, and applicable location restrictions through member support. Approval of a seller account or a category name is not format approval. Never describe a format as legally approved unless that statement can be substantiated.

Giveaways

Do not require a purchase, paid bid, tip, or donation to enter or improve a person’s odds. Publish eligibility, entry method, timing, prize description, selection method, and delivery terms in advance. Promotions must meet applicable requirements and receive platform review before launch.

Texas reference: Texas Penal Code, Chapter 47. These platform standards do not replace applicable law or establish that a particular format is lawful.

Value claims must be backed up

Sellers may state an item value, floor, ceiling, or average only when they can support the claim with verifiable, independent expert valuation evidence. Identify the source, valuation date, exact item, condition and grade, currency, and whether the number is a guide estimate, appraisal, or completed-sale comparison. Make the evidence available to buyers before purchase.

Use a relevant qualified source: for example, PSA or Beckett pricing/appraisal evidence for cards, PCGS or NGC pricing evidence for coins, and a qualified category expert for fashion and other collectibles. A grading or authentication certificate alone does not establish a dollar value. Do not imply these organizations endorse the seller or Hangout Live.

For a reviewed multi-item format, substantiate every included item and calculate the floor as the lowest supported value, ceiling as the highest, and arithmetic average across all included items. Disclose the item count, methodology, and any change in composition. No fabricated comparables, cherry-picked asking prices, or promises of profit. Value evidence does not authorize a prohibited sales format.

Private messages & official notices

Use private messages for legitimate buyer and seller conversations. No harassment, spam, impersonation, unlawful sales, or requests for passwords, security codes, or full payment-card information. Use the block and report options when needed. Reported concerns go to private member support; include the relevant message text and reference.

Official notices appear in the From Hangout tab. Another member cannot publish in that tab. Keep transactions in the approved Hangout purchase flow; a private message is not a payment receipt.

01

Respect belongs to everyone

Treat people with dignity regardless of what they spend, sell, believe, or own. Welcome newcomers. Disagreement is welcome; humiliation, threats, harassment, and discrimination are not.

02

Let people choose freely

Explain what is being sold, its condition, the price, and any extra costs. No misleading claims, fake bids, pressure to spend beyond someone’s comfort, or shaming someone who chooses not to buy.

03

Help each other succeed

Share knowledge, give honest credit, and make room for others. No sabotaging another seller, impersonating someone, or using another person’s work without permission.

04

Keep your word

Describe items honestly, fulfill the promises you make, and communicate when something goes wrong. Work toward a fair resolution instead of hiding a problem.

05

Protect each other’s privacy

Do not publish someone’s personal information or turn a disagreement into a public pile-on. Bring concerns to member support with the facts you have.

06

Accountability includes us

These standards apply to buyers, sellers, founders, and staff. A person’s spending, sales, title, or relationship with the team should not determine how a concern is handled.

Speak up. Be heard.

Use a private support case to report conduct, ask for help, or request a review of a decision. Include the show or listing, approximate time, what happened, and any relevant details. Please leave out passwords and payment card information.

Your case is visible to you and authorized founder reviewers. It is not posted publicly or shared automatically with the person you report. Reviewers may need to discuss relevant facts to investigate a concern.

Sign in to keep your conversation private and return for replies. Support is checked by the team; it is not a live emergency service.

Fairness needs follow-through.

A report is a request for review, not proof of wrongdoing. Our standard is to listen, consider the facts, explain decisions, and give people a way to raise mistakes or provide new information. Retaliating against someone for making a good-faith report is not acceptable.

Seller participation is nonexclusive. Sellers may use other platforms and stream simultaneously. During a Hangout show, they must not promote competing platforms or direct the audience away to complete purchases elsewhere.
